Getting Started
Welcome to Community Questions! This guide will help you set up your first Q&A space and start building a knowledge community in Confluence.
Before You Start
- ✅ Confluence Cloud Admin rights - You need admin permissions to install apps
- ✅ A Confluence space - You'll need at least one space to enable Q&A in
Installation
- In Confluence, click the cog icon in the top right corner
- Select Atlassian Marketplace → Find new apps
- Search for Community Questions
- Click Try it free
- Select your Confluence site (pre-selected if installing from Confluence) and click Review
- Review the permissions and click Start free trial
Alternative: You can also install directly from the Atlassian Marketplace listing.
Verify Installation
- Click the cog icon → Manage apps
- Go to Connected apps → Installed apps tab
- Find Community Questions for Confluence by Firnity in the list
Post-Installation
After installation, you should see:
In Confluence Administration (cog icon → Settings):
- New Community Questions section with Introduction and Settings pages
In Confluence navigation:
- Questions app in the Apps section of the left sidebar
- Click it to access the global Q&A space
In Space sidebars:
- Questions section appears in each space sidebar (can be enabled/disabled per space)
If you don't see these sections, check the configuration settings below to enable them.
Configuration
To configure Community Questions, go to Confluence Administration (cog icon) → Community Questions → Settings.
Global Questions
Enable Global Questions in the top navigation bar Apps menu
- When enabled, users can access the global Q&A space from Apps → Questions
- Global questions are stored in a dedicated Q&A space (you can change which space is used)
Show questions from all other spaces with Questions enabled
- When enabled, the global Q&A view also displays questions from individual spaces
Space Questions
Enable Questions in the space sidebar for all spaces
- When enabled, Questions section appears in every space sidebar
- Turn this off to enable questions only for selected spaces in each space's settings
Tip: You can mix and match these options. For example, enable Global Questions for company-wide discussions while enabling Space Questions only for specific teams.
Ask Your First Question
- Click the Questions tab in your space sidebar
- Click Ask Question
- Enter a clear title, add details in the description, and optionally add tags
- Click Submit

Answer Questions
- Browse questions and click one to view details
- Click Add Answer and write your response
- Click Submit
Tip: Question authors can mark one answer as "accepted" to highlight the best solution.
Voting and Reputation
- Upvote helpful questions and answers to surface the best content
- Earn reputation points when your content receives upvotes or your answer is accepted
- View the Users tab and user profiles to see top contributors
Note: You cannot vote on your own questions or answers.

Integrations (Optional)
Connect Community Questions with Slack, Google Chat, or Microsoft Teams to receive notifications when questions are asked or answered.
