Tags & Organization

Tags help you organize and categorize questions, making it easier to find relevant content and build a well-structured knowledge base.

Browsing Tags

The Tags tab shows tags available in the current space. Global Questions can also show tags from other visible spaces.

View Options:

• Toggle between Tiles and List using the buttons in the toolbar
• Use Sort by dropdown to sort by: Name, Newest, or Popular
• Use Search tags to find tags by name
• Use the clear action in the search field to restore all tags and keep typing

Tag Cards:

Each tag displays:

• Tag icon and linked name
• Global or space identity
• Number of questions using that tag
• A visible Watch or Watching action
• A menu for editing or deleting the tag when you have permission

Tiles stay compact and do not show descriptions. Switch to List to compare descriptions, creation dates, question counts, and actions. On a narrow screen, the List view scrolls horizontally so no columns are removed.

Creating Tags

Click Create tag, then provide a label and optional description or icon. In the Global Questions space, you can also make the tag visible in all spaces. The icon picker shows one selected file with actions to replace or remove it.

Managing Tags

Open the More actions menu on a tag tile or list row to access management options.

Rename a Tag:

• Edit the tag name to rename it
• All questions with the old tag are automatically updated to use the new name

Merge Tags:

• To merge two tags, rename one tag to match the name of another existing tag
• The tags will be combined, and all questions will use the merged tag

Delete a Tag:

• Removes the tag from all questions that use it
• This action cannot be undone

Adding Tags to Questions

When Creating a Question:

1. Write your question title and body
2. In the Tags field, start typing a tag name
3. Select an existing tag from suggestions or create a new one
4. Add multiple tags to cover different aspects
5. Submit your question

When Editing a Question:

1. Click Edit on your question
2. Add or remove tags in the Tags field
3. Save your changes

Filtering Questions by Tag

Click any tag to see all questions with that tag. You can do this from:

• The Tags tab (click a tag card)
• A question's tag list (click any tag shown on a question)

The selected tag remains visible above the results. Use View all questions to clear it, including when no matching questions are found.

Watching Tags

Watch tags to receive email notifications when new questions with those tags are asked:

1. Go to the Tags tab
2. Find tags you're interested in
3. Click Watch on each tag

The action changes to Watching. Click it again to stop watching the tag.

Tag Organization Tips

Good tag names are:

• Short and descriptive
• Lowercase with hyphens for multi-word tags (e.g., api-integration)
• Consistent across your organization

Common tag patterns:

• Technology tags: javascript, python, docker, aws
• Topic tags: authentication, deployment, troubleshooting
• Team or project tags: team-engineering, project-alpha
