Permissions
Community Questions uses Confluence's space permissions to control access. You can configure who can view, add, and delete questions, votes, and tags for each space.
Configuring Permissions
To configure permissions:
- Go to Space Settings
- Navigate to Apps section
- Select Community Questions for Confluence from the dropdown
- Click Edit to modify permissions
Permission Categories
| Category | View | Add | Delete |
|---|---|---|---|
| Questions | See questions | Ask questions | Remove your own or other people's questions |
| Votes | See vote counts | Upvote content | Unvote (remove your vote) |
| Tags | See tags | Create/add tags | Remove tags |
The Community Questions app account needs Questions View and Add, Tags View and Add, plus either Space Admin or Add/Delete Restrictions for the content operations it performs. It does not need Questions, Vote, or Tag Delete.
Delete Own, Delete, and Space Admin
- Delete Own lets a person remove content they authored.
- Delete lets a person remove visible content of that type, including content authored by other people.
- Space Admin lets an administrator manage the space and its permissions, but does not automatically include Delete for every content type.
- Add/Delete Restrictions manages view and edit restrictions. It does not grant permission to delete questions, answers, or comments.
When a question or answer contains comments or answers from other people, Community Questions makes a best effort to remove all nested content. If a nested item cannot be deleted, the question or answer is kept. Some nested content may already have been removed. Use the action shown in the error to open space permissions, or ask a space administrator to grant the relevant Delete permission and retry.
Supported User Types
You can grant permissions to:
- Individual users - Grant access to specific Confluence users
- Groups - Grant access to Confluence groups (e.g., confluence-users, developers)
- All Confluence users - Grant access to all licensed Confluence users in your organization
