Tags & Organization
Tags help you organize and categorize questions, making it easier to find relevant content and build a well-structured knowledge base.
Browsing Tags
The Tags tab shows all tags in your space.
View Options:
- Toggle between grid view and list view using the buttons in the toolbar
- Use Sort by dropdown to sort by: Name, Newest, or Popular
- Use the Search box to find tags by name
Tag Cards:
Each tag displays:
- Tag name
- Number of questions using that tag
- Watch icon to receive notifications for new questions with that tag
Creating Tags
Click the Create tag button to create a new tag.
Tip: Before creating a new tag, search for existing tags to avoid duplicates. Use consistent naming conventions like lowercase with hyphens (e.g., api-integration).
Managing Tags
Click the menu icon (...) on any tag card to access management options.
Rename a Tag:
- Edit the tag name to rename it
- All questions with the old tag are automatically updated to use the new name
Merge Tags:
- To merge two tags, rename one tag to match the name of another existing tag
- The tags will be combined, and all questions will use the merged tag
Delete a Tag:
- Removes the tag from all questions that use it
- This action cannot be undone
Adding Tags to Questions
When Creating a Question:
- Write your question title and body
- In the Tags field, start typing a tag name
- Select an existing tag from suggestions or create a new one
- Add multiple tags to cover different aspects
- Submit your question
When Editing a Question:
- Click Edit on your question
- Add or remove tags in the Tags field
- Save your changes
Filtering Questions by Tag
Click any tag to see all questions with that tag. You can do this from:
- The Tags tab (click a tag card)
- A question's tag list (click any tag shown on a question)
Watching Tags
Watch tags to receive email notifications when new questions with those tags are asked:
- Go to the Tags tab
- Find tags you're interested in
- Click the watch icon (eye) on each tag

Tag Organization Tips
Good tag names are:
- Short and descriptive
- Lowercase with hyphens for multi-word tags (e.g.,
api-integration) - Consistent across your organization
Common tag patterns:
- Technology tags:
javascript,python,docker,aws - Topic tags:
authentication,deployment,troubleshooting - Team or project tags:
team-engineering,project-alpha
Avoid: Creating duplicate tags like "javascript", "js", and "JavaScript". Choose one convention and stick with it.
