Tags & Organization

Tags help you organize and categorize questions, making it easier to find relevant content and build a well-structured knowledge base.

Browsing Tags

The Tags tab shows all tags in your space.

View Options:

  • Toggle between grid view and list view using the buttons in the toolbar
  • Use Sort by dropdown to sort by: Name, Newest, or Popular

Each tag displays:

  • Tag name
  • Number of questions using that tag
  • Watch icon to receive notifications for new questions with that tag

Creating Tags

Click the Create tag button to create a new tag.

Tip: Before creating a new tag, search for existing tags to avoid duplicates. Use consistent naming conventions like lowercase with hyphens (e.g., api-integration).

Managing Tags

Click the menu icon (...) on any tag card to access management options.

Rename a Tag:

  • Edit the tag name to rename it
  • All questions with the old tag are automatically updated to use the new name

Merge Tags:

  • To merge two tags, rename one tag to match the name of another existing tag
  • The tags will be combined, and all questions will use the merged tag

Delete a Tag:

  • Removes the tag from all questions that use it
  • This action cannot be undone

See the Email Notifications guide for more about watching and notifications.

Tag Organization Tips

Good tag names are:

  • Short and descriptive
  • Lowercase with hyphens for multi-word tags (e.g., api-integration)
  • Consistent across your organization

Common tag patterns:

  • Technology tags: javascript, python, docker, aws
  • Topic tags: authentication, deployment, troubleshooting
  • Team or project tags: team-engineering, project-alpha

Avoid: Creating duplicate tags like "javascript", "js", and "JavaScript". Choose one convention and stick with it.
